Anti-oxidants are believed to be good for the heart and the arteries and to help protect both from free radicals those bad things that are caused by any number of factors including stress.
However, there may be a big difference between taking a pill through which you get your anti-oxidants and eating the right foods. It is believed that if supplements are used as a source to jack up your blood levels of anti-oxidants there are some bad things that can happen. Cancer tumours in your body will also absorb anti-oxidants and make themselves stronger and more resistant to attacks from your immune system. That's not good. When I learned about this possibility I ditched most of my daily regimen of vitamin-taking, that is, vitamins that I was taking to boost my immune system.
It should be noted, though, that one of the world's most definitive studies proves, that's right, "proves" that by eating mostly a vegetarian diet--meaning no meats or dairy whatsoever--people have a much lower incidence of everything from diabetes and crohns, to strokes and heart attacks. The China Study examined over 900,000 people over the long term. Nothing beats that. No study is more powerful.
Keep your arteries and heart strong and healthy by eating the right foods...fresh, vegetarian foods.
