As you know from reading the other posts, Atrial Fibrillation, in fact many forms of heart disease, are attibuted to the formation of Fibrosis in the heart, which causes the heart to become less flexible, or which erects obstacles in the pathway of electrical impulses causing the electrical impulses to try to jump over or work their way around the fibrotic scarred tissue in the heart.
According to Elisabeth Zeisberg, MD, and, who also served as the lead researcher for a study that was publicized in Science Daily, July 31, 2007, the culprit is fibroblast cells. But where to fibroblast cells come from?
Raghu Kalluri, PhD, and Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, explained that certain cells in the body which are under stress can convert into fibroblasts to deposit scar material ...impeding electrical conduction of the heart. He indicated that it CAN BE REVERSED using the rhBMP-7 protein. (According to the article in Science Daily, the study was funded by Novartis Corporation.)
Happy fibrosis busting, everyone!!!
